Very excited to share the stage on clar and sax with Chris Lowry (vocals) and Tom (piano) and Will (guit, mandolin) Melville at the Free Times Cafe to perform an entire night of songs of Tom Waits.

Tonight only at 8pm!

The Advocats are very excited to be returning to perform at The Rex Hotel (194 Queen Street West, just west of University) on Saturday, November 12 from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. This is an excellent venue where live jazz has been celebrated for many years. We always have a great time when we play at The Rex! Join us! Parking and TTC are convenient. No reservations so we recommend getting there early to get a seat! PWYC.

SOULidified was busy in the studio bringing you these great new videos. Click here and check them out!

Come on out 5-9 on April 24!  Have some dinner, listen to a really great band (honest!) play some fantastic music (from the likes of Otis Redding, James Brown, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, Motown artists, and many more).

The food is good (especially great wings), the beer is cold and the grooves coming from the stage will make you want to shake your tail feather all night long, all night, all night long…. (or at least until 9)!  The Seven44 is located at 744 Mt. Pleasant, just south of Eglinton. For a taste of the band (see especially the live videos!) and more…

We really do appreciate your support!  Spread the word!

Reservations are appreciated: (416) 489-7931 — but don’t worry, you can just walk in, too. There’s good parking nearby, on the street around the club, and in a parking garage just south of Seven44.

Hope to see you there.  “We guarantee you won’t be disappointed.”

SOULidified is the brainchild of leader and arranger Rick Blechta. While his playing experience covers virtually every music genre and kind of ensemble, the soul songs he played as a teenage hold a special place in his heart. He figures it’s now time to share it with a wider — and younger — audience. Otis Redding, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave and many others were all giants of this special music. It’s the goal of SOULidified to play this music with the passion these artists brought to their stage performances, and with the authenticity that is so often lacking when these classic tunes are occasionally performed today.

“Anybody who can hear this music and not at least tap their foot – let alone be overwhelmed by the urge to get up and dance – is either not listening or dead. You can’t help but be captured by the potency of it. Fifty years after it was created, the original examples of Soul Music haven’t lost one drop of their power. Whether you’ve heard these songs or not, we guarantee they will not leave you unaffected.”

I’m so happy and glad about this new hire on my team!  Welcome to DV NY 8☆. It was a long recruiting process with a few rounds of interviews but I’m happy to report that he hit the ground running right away and with full force!  Solid,  smooth, warm but yet with a great core and projection. I’m looking forward to a long and successful future together.

Below is the full version of a customer review of 7Digital that I tried to post on April 08, 2014 through the Google Play store. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to post the entire review to the Google Play Store due to space constraints. Please note that I will update this entry periodically to share any progress (or lack thereof). Feel free to share your own experience.

7Digital is great, as long as it works properly. But dare it not, good luck, it seems you are on your own!

Right now, I cannot recommend this service and its application (from google play) to anybody!

What’s my issue?

I switched devices, i.e. I upgraded my old Samsung tablet (8.4) to a new one (tabpro 10.1). I installed 7Digital from the Google Playstore and attempted to download my music that I previously purchased through 7Digital. The app fails to download any music and instead reminds me each time that the download was not successful (and of course encourages me to try again). The same happens with a newly purchased album.

I reached out to 7Digital through their help/customer support section. I did that on March 24 (case number 00019734, March 30 (case number 00019967) and April 04 (case number 00020284). Each time, I was greeted with an auto-reply with very helpful tips such as “try to re-download your purchase” (yeah, didn’t figure that one out on my own…), and all such auto-reply mails ended with an encouraging “Love from 7”.

So, let’s try to be fair and analyze how 7Digital’s service compares to its promises (as per their website, I quote directly!)?

“You can expect a response within 48 hours, or less, during normal business hours […].

Verdict: FAILED. On all my inquiries, we are generously past 7Digital’s self-imposed response deadline (including my most recent request from April 4). Nobody has bothered to connect with me, try to assist or show any Love.

“Purchase a song from us and you can stream or download it instantly. […], you can access it wherever you are, simply by logging-in from any computer or connected device. Perfect if you like to listen to music on several different devices, and great for covering your back, should you ever lose or damage your computer or phone.

Verdict: FAILED. I can’t download instantly. I can’t access it anywhere. I can’t listen to music on several different devices.

As it stands now, I have paid 7Digital money for a library of albums that I am unable to listen to and a service that I have yet to receive. I kindly ask you, show me some Love and tell me how I can get my music back!

For anybody interested in how 7Digital honors its promises, I will share any future updates and progress right here. Also, I will periodically share any feedback (or lack thereof) through what I believe should be the appropriate, corresponding product review submissions on the Google play store until this issue is resolved. My next entry with a star rating will be around April 12 or 13 (weekend).

Love, Daniel.

After many months of composing, arranging, practicing, recording, mixing, editing and mastering, this new composition is in the can! Beyond Music was written for and dedicated to the TrioVivo celebrating more than 25 years of music and friendship. Special thanks to Roland Spether, our unofficial press agent and source of (too) many embarrassing pictures and interviews…! 🙂
