Very excited to share the stage on clar and sax with Chris Lowry (vocals) and Tom (piano) and Will (guit, mandolin) Melville at the Free Times Cafe to perform an entire night of songs of Tom Waits.

Tonight only at 8pm!

The Advocats are very excited to be returning to perform at The Rex Hotel (194 Queen Street West, just west of University) on Saturday, November 12 from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. This is an excellent venue where live jazz has been celebrated for many years. We always have a great time when we play at The Rex! Join us! Parking and TTC are convenient. No reservations so we recommend getting there early to get a seat! PWYC.

Daniel

— Bouncer at a New York jazz club after telling us that the scheduled band for the night didn’t show up. New York, 26 July 2016.

Come on out 5-9 on April 24!  Have some dinner, listen to a really great band (honest!) play some fantastic music (from the likes of Otis Redding, James Brown, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, Motown artists, and many more).

The food is good (especially great wings), the beer is cold and the grooves coming from the stage will make you want to shake your tail feather all night long, all night, all night long…. (or at least until 9)!  The Seven44 is located at 744 Mt. Pleasant, just south of Eglinton. For a taste of the band (see especially the live videos!) and more…   http://www.soulidifiedband.com/

We really do appreciate your support!  Spread the word!

Reservations are appreciated: (416) 489-7931 — but don’t worry, you can just walk in, too. There’s good parking nearby, on the street around the club, and in a parking garage just south of Seven44.

Hope to see you there.  “We guarantee you won’t be disappointed.”

Team work!

SOULidified is the brainchild of leader and arranger Rick Blechta. While his playing experience covers virtually every music genre and kind of ensemble, the soul songs he played as a teenage hold a special place in his heart. He figures it’s now time to share it with a wider — and younger — audience. Otis Redding, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave and many others were all giants of this special music. It’s the goal of SOULidified to play this music with the passion these artists brought to their stage performances, and with the authenticity that is so often lacking when these classic tunes are occasionally performed today.

“Anybody who can hear this music and not at least tap their foot – let alone be overwhelmed by the urge to get up and dance – is either not listening or dead. You can’t help but be captured by the potency of it. Fifty years after it was created, the original examples of Soul Music haven’t lost one drop of their power. Whether you’ve heard these songs or not, we guarantee they will not leave you unaffected.”

Behind one line of a great solo lies the weight of thousands of hours of practice. Years of listening. Dozens of transcribed solos. Decades of private instruction. Tough lessons picked up in jam sessions and revelations passed on by mentors.

…all in just a dozen notes.

My good friend and incredibly talented photographer Carsten Domnick created this awesome black&white photo art trip through New York City. I was very honored to be chosen to design and provide music and audio for this great work of art!
